Glacier Index: a data-report plate with navy hairline waves
Glacier Index reads like a page from an annual climate report. The Caption layout lays a band of 56 navy wave lines across the top of a glacier blue sheet, cuts it off at a caption rule and picks out one strand in electric blue as the lead line the eye follows. Underneath, Meltwater runs in bold grotesk over eight columns, while the summary and a mono table of equation, ratio, phase and lines fill the last three.
Make it yours
Make the water rougher
Symmetry sets how many crests ripple across the band, 3 here, and Resonance shapes the swell that lifts and flattens them along its length. Raise Symmetry to 8 for choppy water, or drop Coupling to 30 for a lower, calmer band.
Keep the caption short
Body and the settings table share the three narrow columns on the right, so keep Body to two short lines. The table fills itself with Equation, Ratio, Phase and Lines from your settings, and the plate always shows how it was drawn.
FAQ
What do the rows in the caption table mean?
They record the plate above. Equation names the curve family, Ratio is Symmetry against Resonance, Phase is the offset in degrees, and Lines is Copies times Line width, so 56 × 0.6 means 56 hairlines, each 0.6 pixels wide on the 1000 pixel sheet.
How it works
Choose a layout and a line system
Combine one of 5 layouts, Swiss, Split, Cover, Caption or Oversized, with one of 5 equations, or start from one of 17 looks such as Kunsthalle, Riso Duo or Night Conference.
Write and set your copy
Edit the Eyebrow, Headline, Body and Footer, choose a Grotesk, Condensed, Wide or Serif Typeface, and wrap one word of the headline in asterisks to set it in serif italic.
Tune the drawing and use it
Adjust Symmetry, Resonance, Coupling, Phase, Warp, Copies, Line width and Shape scale, choose a Clean, Riso, Grid or Overprint finish and the colors, then sign in with a free UX Pilot account to use it on the canvas or export it.
