Wasabi Manifesto: a giant condensed numeral with a six-pointed star
Wasabi Manifesto is a design-week poster that rests on one number. The Condensed typeface sets 26 in heavy black at oversized scale on acid yellow-green paper, and a superformula star with Symmetry 6 and Coupling 70 runs through the counters of the 2 and the 6 before leaving the sheet at the right edge. Sixty hairline copies, every fourth one in full black, give the star the ridged look of a contour map.
Make it yours
Sharpen or soften the points
Coupling bends the superformula from a rounded blossom into a spiky star, and 70 gives the pinched six points seen here. Lower it toward 20 for soft, swollen lobes, or raise it past 90 for needle-thin arms.
Write a number, not a sentence
This layout works best when the Headline has two to four characters. A year, an edition or a short date keeps the digits tall enough for the star to weave through them; a full word shrinks the type and the effect thins out.
FAQ
What is a superformula, and why does it make star shapes?
The superformula is a polar equation that rounds or pinches a circle into a set number of lobes. Symmetry chooses how many points appear, six on this poster, and Coupling sets how sharply each one is pinched, so one equation covers flowers, stars and rounded polygons.
How it works
Choose a layout and a line system
Combine one of 5 layouts, Swiss, Split, Cover, Caption or Oversized, with one of 5 equations, or start from one of 17 looks such as Kunsthalle, Riso Duo or Night Conference.
Write and set your copy
Edit the Eyebrow, Headline, Body and Footer, choose a Grotesk, Condensed, Wide or Serif Typeface, and wrap one word of the headline in asterisks to set it in serif italic.
Tune the drawing and use it
Adjust Symmetry, Resonance, Coupling, Phase, Warp, Copies, Line width and Shape scale, choose a Clean, Riso, Grid or Overprint finish and the colors, then sign in with a free UX Pilot account to use it on the canvas or export it.
