Moiré Twins: two yellow ring sets weaving a turning star
Moiré Twins overlays two sets of wasabi-yellow concentric rings on near-black, with their centers set slightly apart. Where the rings cross they cancel and reinforce in turn, and that interference draws a star of dark fringes radiating from the middle that neither ring set contains on its own. On Counterflow the two centers orbit each other once every 7.5 seconds, so the star turns while the rings themselves barely move.
Make it yours
Pull the centers apart
Spatial depth sets how far apart the two ring centers sit. At 35 the star has a handful of broad arms; raise it toward 100 and the fringes multiply into a dense, fine star, or drop it near 0 for a few soft bands.
Square the rings
Mark shape is Round, which gives circles. Switch it to Square and both sets become nested squares whose interference forms crosses and corner lines instead of a star, or choose Line for two overlapping straight gratings.
FAQ
What creates the moiré fringes in Moiré Twins?
Each ring set alone is just evenly spaced circles. Because the second set is off center, its rings fall in and out of step with the first, and the zones where they line up or alternate merge into large dark and light arms that move whenever the offset changes.
How it works
Choose a starting point
Start from one of 16 looks such as Riley Current, Cobalt Tunnel or Moiré Twins, or pick one of 8 pattern geometries, from Halftone and Checkerboard to Moiré and Weave.
Bend the pattern
Pick a Mark shape and a Distortion field such as Lens, Pinch, Fold or Twist, set Pattern density, Mark weight, Spatial depth, Wave distortion and Color separation, then drag the artwork to position it.
Loop it and use it
Press Play to run a seamless Flow, Breathe or Counterflow loop, set the two inks, Light color and Backlight, then sign in with a free UX Pilot account to use it on the canvas or export it.
