Color blocks: a 3D pixel effect that keeps the model's own colors
Color blocks is the only preset that sets Color Mode to source. Instead of mapping everything to Ink and Light color, each pixel takes its color straight from the 3D render, so the knot shows up in the violets, blues, pinks and mint greens of its surface shading. The Pixel effect at Cell size 18 makes those squares large and blunt: a low-res sprite rotating on the default warm cream.
Make it yours
Compare it in two colors
Flip Color Mode back to Duotone and the same blocks are redrawn in shades between Ink and Light color. It is a quick route to an on-brand version once you like the pixel size.
Choose your resolution
Cell size 18 is the exact midpoint of the 4 to 32 range. Go to 24 or more for an icon-like abstraction, or down to 10 when the outline of the knot needs to stay recognisable.
FAQ
Where do the colors in Color blocks come from?
From the source itself. With a 3D form, that is the multicolored shading of the rendered surface, which shifts as the model turns. With Source set to image, the blocks take the colors of your uploaded picture, so the preset doubles as a simple image pixelator.
How it works
Pick a source
Use one of 10 built-in 3D shapes, import a GLB, OBJ or STL model, or upload a PNG, JPG or WebP image.
Choose an effect
Switch between 9 effects and set cell size, contrast, brightness and, for ASCII, the characters used.
Color and use it
Keep the source colors or go duotone with your own palette, then sign in with a free UX Pilot account to use it on the canvas or export it.
