Halftone generator for images and 3D models
Mesh Effects Lab applies print and screen effects to a 3D form or an uploaded image. Choose halftone dots, ASCII characters, pixels, dither, mosaic, pointillism, heatmap, threshold or duotone, then control the cell size, contrast and color. With a 3D source the effect moves as the form rotates, which gives a 3D ASCII or halftone look.
How it works
Pick a source
Use one of 10 built-in 3D shapes, import a GLB, OBJ or STL model, or upload a PNG, JPG or WebP image.
Choose an effect
Switch between 9 effects and set cell size, contrast, brightness and, for ASCII, the characters used.
Color and use it
Keep the source colors or go duotone with your own palette, then sign in with a free UX Pilot account to use it on the canvas or export it.
What you can make
Halftone images
Print style dot screens for photos, portraits and product shots.
3D ASCII art
A rotating 3D form rendered in characters for a technical, terminal feel.
Duotone and threshold graphics
High contrast two color treatments for posters and covers.
Hero visuals
Starting points such as Print dots, Code sculpture, Thermal helix and Soft duotone.
FAQ
What is a halftone effect?
Halftone recreates an image with dots of varying size, the way newspapers and screen prints do. Larger dots read as darker areas and smaller dots as lighter ones.
Can I apply halftone to my own image?
Yes. Set the source to Image and upload a PNG, JPG or WebP up to 20 MB. You can also use a 3D model in GLB, OBJ or STL format.
Which effects are included?
Nine: halftone, ASCII, pixel, dither, mosaic, pointillism, heatmap, threshold and duotone.
Is the halftone generator free?
Exploring is free and runs in your browser. Using your result on the UX Pilot canvas or exporting it needs a free UX Pilot account.
