Voxel cubes: a flat photo turned into a field of isometric cubes
Voxel cubes replaces the grid with isometric cubes packed in staggered rows, each drawn as three faces in the photo's color: a lit top, a mid-tone right side and a shaded left side. At a Cell size of 12, a step up from the other Photo art presets, the cubes are large enough for their faces to read, so the picture gains a faceted relief like a voxel game scene. Color dodge blends them into the blurred backdrop, which keeps pale areas airy and lets strong colors such as the red ibis and turquoise water in the preview stand out.
Make it yours
Float the cubes on black
Choose Black as the Backdrop and switch Blend to Normal, since color dodge has nothing to brighten on black. The cubes then sit like a lit 3D model on a dark stage, which suits game and tech visuals.
Stack chunkier blocks
At Cell size 24 the cubes double in size and the image becomes a bold isometric build, a strong look for game-themed landing pages or a blocky, 3D-styled profile picture.
FAQ
Are the voxel cubes real 3D geometry?
No, they are flat drawings on a 2D canvas. Each cube is three shaded diamonds arranged in isometric projection and sampled from one point of your photo, so the export is an ordinary PNG. The three shading levels create the sense of depth and a consistent light from above.
