Matrix rain: animated green glyphs that form your image on black
Matrix rain is the animated one. The Matrix character set fills the picture with katakana-style glyphs and digits whose opacity follows image brightness, green on pure black at a larger Character size of 12, with Bloom at 35 for a phosphor glow. Motion is set to Scan, so a bright band travels down the frame while the glyphs keep reshuffling, which gives the falling-code feeling of a hacker film title sequence without borrowing from any one film.
Make it yours
Slow the scan for backgrounds
Bring Speed down from 40 to 15 when the effect sits behind a headline, so the moving band does not pull the eye, or set Motion to Flicker if the characters should change in place with no sweep.
Make the subject readable
Glyphs at Character size 12 are coarse, so faces get lost. Start from a bold, high-contrast source, raise Contrast from 15 to about 40, and try Character size 9 to give the image more columns to work with.
FAQ
Does the Matrix rain effect respect reduced motion?
Yes. When a visitor's system asks for reduced motion, the preview stays still. If you want a still image from the start, set Motion to Still: the glyph portrait, the green color and the bloom all remain, and only the scanning band and the character changes stop.
