Line screen: vertical bars that thicken with the light in your photo
Line screen replaces letters with four vertical bars of decreasing width, so a bright cell gets a thick half-width bar and a dim one a hairline. It is one of the fine-line styles, which keep marks much further into the shadows than character styles do, so dark areas read as sparse thin strokes rather than empty space. Set side by side, the bars form columns like a banknote engraving, each in the photo's boosted color, as in the preview where a yellow poppy becomes a field of glowing stripes.
Make it yours
Widen the stripes
Bars sit at a Cell size of 11, which gives tight columns across a full image. Raise it to 18 for bold stripes with visible gaps, a strong look for a hero banner or an album cover with one clear subject.
Make the bars light up
Set Blend to Screen and the bars brighten the blurred photo where they cross it instead of covering it. Add Bloom at about 25 and the brightest columns pick up a soft halo, like light through a slatted blind.
FAQ
How does Line screen compare to a printed line screen?
A print line screen varies line width along a fixed ruling across the whole sheet. This preset works cell by cell: it picks one of four bar widths from the local brightness and colors that bar from the photo, so you keep the rhythm of an engraved screen but gain full color and a blurred image behind it.
