Studio Mercury: a mirror-chrome bust lit like a product shot
Studio Mercury is the look Liquid Metal Lab opens with: a classical bust in profile, finished in mirror chrome and set on a graphite backdrop with a soft contact shadow. The Studio softboxes rig puts one large key panel, a long top strip and two hairline rims into the reflections, while a steel-blue Gel light fills the shadow side so the chrome never turns flat black. Roughness 10 and Liquid distortion 6 keep the highlights crisp, with only a slow ripple at Flow speed 14.
Make it yours
Read the room in the reflection
Metal is a near-white #E9EAED, so the chrome adds almost no color of its own and everything you see on the bust is the studio. Raise Light panels above 4 and thin extra strips appear between the softboxes, which suits a busier, more technical shot.
Warm up the shadow side
The fill on the dark side of the face comes from Gel light, a deep steel blue. Swap it for a dark amber and the same bust turns warmer and more editorial, while Exposure at 110 keeps the key highlight just short of clipping.
FAQ
Why does the chrome bust look dark instead of silver?
Polished metal mirrors its surroundings, and this studio is mostly dark graphite. Only the softboxes, the top strip and the rims are bright, so they land on the bust as clean white shapes. Raise Exposure or pick a lighter Backdrop for a brighter, more silvery result.
How it works
Choose a form
Pick one of 10 built-in shapes, try a sample model such as the Marble bust, Lion head or Conch shell, or import a GLB, OBJ or STL model up to 20 MB.
Light the studio
Choose a Lighting rig such as Studio softboxes, Strip lights, Color gels or Horizon '84, set the Floor to Contact shadow, Glossy floor or Floating, and pick the Backdrop, Metal and Gel light colors.
