Plum smoke: a silk ribbon of light twisting across plum black
Plum smoke is the default Ethereal Veil look: about 3,700 hairline filaments, set by Filament density 90, add their light into one wide silk ribbon that sweeps across a plum-black ground. Where the Tide structure twists edge-on, the strands crowd together and flare peach-white, while the face-on stretches stay a smoky mauve. Press Play and the ribbon drifts and refolds in a seamless loop of about 16.7 seconds.
Make it yours
Tighten the twists
Fold complexity is 2, so the ribbon turns edge-on about twice across the frame. Raise it to 4 or 5 and the twists come faster, stringing a row of bright knots along the band.
Dim it down to smoke
Translucency at 70 decides how much light every filament adds. Lower it to about 40 for a dusky, smoky ribbon, or push it toward 90 and the twist burns almost white.
FAQ
Is Plum smoke a photograph of fabric?
No. It is drawn live in your browser with WebGL2: thousands of hairline filaments add their light into one buffer, which is then tone-mapped with a wide, low bloom and a soft light behind the ribbon.
How it works
Pick a structure
Start from one of 16 looks such as Plum smoke, Aurora curtain or Spectral prism, or choose one of 8 flow structures: tide, iris, wings, cells, division, shell, curtain or corona.
Tune the light
Shape it with fold complexity, fluid tension and filament density, then set translucency, edge contrast, the iridescent edge and membrane edge softness for the glow. Drag the artwork to place it.
Color and use it
Set the background, first, second and light colors, press Play for a seamless loop of about 17 seconds, then sign in with a free UX Pilot account to use it on the canvas or export it.
