Quiet lines: angled slate hairlines that fade into cool grey
Quiet lines is the one preset with Show shape switched off, so the pattern and the texture do all the work. Hairline stripes, Weight 30 in slate grey, run at a Rotation of 150 degrees across a cool pale grey, and a Linear fade lets them dissolve from the top of the frame to nothing at the bottom. Paper texture at 45 opacity with a dark slate Tint adds tooth without adding color, a safe backdrop for dashboards, settings pages and documentation.
Make it yours
Bring a shape back in
Turn Show shape on and a dark slate blob appears right of center. Set its Fill to Outline and take Size from 0.6 toward 0.4, so it reads as one more drawn line and not as a block of color.
Switch to pinstripes
The stripes lean at a Rotation of 150, a shallow diagonal. Go to 90 for vertical pinstripes, and tighten Spacing from 180 to around 120 if the lines feel too sparse on a wide desktop layout.
FAQ
When should a background pattern have no hero shape?
When real content covers the whole frame. Dashboards, settings pages and docs rarely have a free corner for a large shape, so Quiet lines turns Show shape off and lets thin, low-contrast stripes and paper texture carry the surface. They fade out down the frame and stay out of the way of copy. For a marketing hero with one empty side, switch the shape back on.
How it works
Build the pattern
Pick a motif and a square, brick or hex layout, then set scale, spacing, weight, rotation, two pattern colors and a background.
Add a shape and a texture
Place one of 8 shapes with a solid, outline or gradient fill, then layer one of 9 textures with a blend mode and opacity.
Frame and use it
Choose a ratio from 1:1 to 9:16, preview it in hero, card and mobile layouts, then sign in with a free UX Pilot account to use it on the canvas or export it.
