Riso Halftone: a duotone halftone gradient in ultramarine and peach
Riso Halftone prints a warm Mesh gradient as a two-color dot screen, the way a risograph lays one ink over paper. Treatment is set to Halftone with Treatment colors on Duotone, so every dot is the deep ultramarine Dark color on a peach Light color, and its size follows how dark the gradient is underneath. The grid is turned to 30 degrees with 9 px cells, and where the plum end of the Sunrise palette sits the dots swell until they merge into solid ink.
Make it yours
Swap the ink
Dark color is a deep ultramarine and Light color a pale peach. Try a fluorescent pink or a teal on off-white for other riso pairings, and keep the ink dark enough that the dot pattern stays readable.
Coarsen the screen
Cell size is 9 px. Double it to 18 for chunky pop-art dots, or drop it to 5 for a fine print screen. Treatment angle at 30 keeps the rows off the horizontal, and 45 gives the classic diagonal.
FAQ
How is Riso Halftone different from Halftone Dusk?
Halftone Dusk lays an even Pattern of equal dots over its gradient. Riso Halftone uses the Halftone treatment, which redraws the whole image as dots whose size follows the tone underneath, so dark areas fill in and light ones open up, as they do in a printed halftone.
How it works
Pick a starting point
Start from one of 28 looks such as Soft Mesh, Eclipse Rays or Riso Halftone, or choose a gradient type and one of 24 palettes.
Tune the gradient
Adjust scale, distortion, swirl and softness, add grain, glass panes or glass tiles, a dot, grid or line overlay, a second blended layer or a treatment such as halftone or pixel sort, and switch animation on with its own speed.
