Datamosh: a frame broken into slipped macroblocks
Datamosh imitates a video frame that has lost its keyframe. The picture breaks into coarse macroblocks of mixed widths, sized by Cell size 9, and Strength 50 tears about a fifth of them loose so they slide sideways by whole blocks, smear into streaks or pick up a dashed selection box, with the color channels splitting at every tear. The Signature Ink then grades the frame through violet black, purple, coral and cream, which is why the saffron stairwell in the preview comes out as a curving coral and cream band through blocks of purple, with its shadowed steps gone near-black.
Make it yours
Keep the original colors
Set Ink to Photo colors and the grade switches off, so the torn blocks keep the stairwell's saffron walls and the blue circle of sky at the top. Tint color builds the four-step ramp from your Tint instead.
Corrupt it harder
Raise Strength to 90 and close to two in five blocks tear loose and travel further. Set Motion to Flicker so the damage reshuffles as the preview plays, faster as you raise Speed.
FAQ
Is the Datamosh preset real compression damage?
No file is corrupted. The preset paints the familiar symptoms of a broken stream over your picture: blocky resampling, tiles that slipped out of place, smeared streaks and split color channels. The image underneath stays intact, so lowering Strength always brings back a cleaner version.
